Sopravo vs Otter.ai
Last updated: 8 July 2026 · Based on both products' public documentation — corrections welcome
The one-sentence difference: Otter transcribes your meetings on their servers, with an account and an optional bot that joins your calls; Sopravo does recording, transcription, speaker separation and AI summaries entirely on your iPhone — no account, no bot, no server that ever sees your audio.
Where the data goes
| Sopravo | Otter.ai | |
|---|---|---|
| Audio processed | On your iPhone (Apple's on-device speech models) | On Otter's cloud servers |
| Transcript & summary stored | On your iPhone (+ optionally your own private iCloud) | In your Otter cloud account |
| Account required | No | Yes |
| Meeting bot joins your calls | Never — Sopravo records in the room, from your phone | Optional OtterPilot bot joins Zoom / Meet / Teams |
| Works with no internet | Yes — end to end, including the AI summary | No — transcription requires their service |
| Confidential-work fit (GDPR, attorney-client, medical) | By architecture: content never reaches a third party | Depends on their terms, retention and your DPA with them |
What each does better
Choose Otter if you need…
- Team collaboration in the cloud: shared workspaces, comments, cross-meeting search across your whole team.
- Remote-call capture via bot: OtterPilot attends Zoom/Meet/Teams calls you can't record from a phone in the room.
- A free tier and web/Android access.
Choose Sopravo if you need…
- Privacy you can verify, not trust: everything runs on the device — see the testable network inventory. Works in airplane mode.
- No bot in the room: nothing joins your call, nothing announces itself, nothing uploads the audio of everyone present.
- Who-said-what on-device: speaker separation without sending voices to a server.
- Cross-lingual summaries: record a meeting in English, read the summary in German, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese — 16 languages.
- Ownership: a one-time lifetime purchase exists; your notes live in your files and your iCloud, not a vendor account that can lapse.
Pricing model
Otter sells per-seat cloud subscriptions with a limited free tier. Sopravo has no free tier: a 7-day full-feature trial, then a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription — or a one-time lifetime purchase. No seats, no per-minute quotas on your own device's processing.
The honest bottom line
These are different architectures, not just different feature lists. If your priority is team-wide cloud collaboration on remote calls, Otter is built for that. If your priority is that the conversation in the room provably never leaves your pocket — client calls, medical and legal conversations, anything under professional-secrecy obligations — that is the case Sopravo was built for, and a cloud service cannot match it by adding a setting.
